November 2007 - March 2008
The Upload Festival is a 'virtual festival', perhaps the only one of its kind, in which players use their webcams to play through songs from three stages: the Dance Stage, the Rock Stage, and the Upload (main) Stage.
This was a four-month group project in my second year, and has proven to be more a concept than a technical achievement; it works very well on a high-end Mac with a fast iSight camera, but further testing unfortunately suggests that less powerful computers have real trouble playing the game. There are also one or two bugs that can mess up gameplay on slower computers.
Regardless, it was a decent attempt, particularly visually, at a type of game that to our knowledge has not been attempted before; the online webcam-based music game. Perhaps it is indicative of what may come about some time in the future when consumer-level webcams are better and computers more powerful; for now, it is a flawed but complete product that, if it works okay for you, I'd strongly recommend trying out for yourself. Just be warned that it can be very tiring!
My group members were: Angela Dickens, Oliver Bourne and Dean Cadwallader.
